1. Women’s Political Development Program:

pwo_workshop.jpgEstablishment of Training project: PWO has established training structures within Burma and delivers regular training to Palaung people in Burma and China. Training focuses on gender, human, and women rights, and is primarily aimed at encouraing critical analysis and building confidence. 

Young Women’s Capacity Building Training:
PWO developed this program in 2006. The training mainly focuses on democracy, human rights, women rights, and the political background of Burma. English, Computer and facilitation skills are  include in the 6 months training course.

Internship Project: PWO conducts an internship program for its members every 6 month since 2005. Interns learn about Burmese politics, English, Computer, PWO activities and office management skills. After finishing the program, some interns work as PWO staff.


2. Eliminating Violence Against Women Program

PWO provides training on gender based violence and women trafficking, educating and raising awareness on gender based violence issues such as trafficking, rape, domestic violence, sexual harassment and other kinds of women’s rights violation.


3. Health Program

PWO is a member of the Adolesce nt Reproductive Health Network (ARHN). PWO provides Adolescent and Reproductive Health training to the young people inside Palaung area in Burma.

PWO and PYNG collaborate in providing a mobile health clinic for the underserved Palaung community.


4. Income Generation Project

Since 2004 PWO had done some embroidery and sewing project. We gave training and produced the Palaung culture bag, longi and shawl.


5. Research and Documentation Department

In mid-2006, PWO published the “Poisoned Flowers” report on the impacts of spiraling drug addiction on Palaung women. The report documents the devastating affects of opium addiction on Palaung communities and in particular Palaung women.

It was extensively researched by PWO members; inside the Palaung area. Through 88 interviews with the wives and mothers of drug addicts the report shows the destructive nature of drug addiction in SPDC controlled areas.

PWO-Publications: Since 2001, PWO has produced bi-annual ‘Shwe Pe Oo’ Journal publication aimed at allowing Palaung women to communicate their experiences and share knowledge and information.
